Despite feeling the absence of Neymar, Brazil managed to push Venezuela to score a goal, which was enough to win and remain the only team with an ideal score.

Chile achieved its first victory in the qualifying rounds at the expense of Peru, which it defeated in Santiago 2-0.

In this way, La Roja continues without losing to the Peruvians in the World Cup preliminary competition, with 9 wins and 2 draws in 11 games.

After 1130 days, Claudio Bravo returned to occupy the Red arch to complete his 50th match for World Cup qualifiers, more than any other Chilean in history. He reached that figure in his 5th elimination process, another record for Chile that, in this case, he shares with Jean Beausejour, who also returned to the national team on this day. Bravo's matches by qualifying rounds:

For Germany 2006: 2

For South Africa 2010: 18

For Brazil 2014: 14

For Russia 2018: 15

For Qatar 2022: 1 (ongoing)

By beating Venezuela, Brazil stretched its undefeated in the South American qualifiers to 20 games. Their last defeat dates from October 2015, when they fell to Chile in Santiago for the first day of qualifying for Russia 2018. Since then, Canarinha has had 15 wins and 5 draws. This is his second-best historical streak, after not losing his first 31 matches in the competition, between 1954 and 1993 (24 wins and 7 draws).

Luis Suárez leads the scoring table of the knockout rounds with 4 goals. The funny thing is that he scored all penalties, with a percentage of 100% effectiveness when executing the maximum penalty.

Colombia v Uruguay - South American Qualifiers for Qatar 2022

When we suffer an early goal it is always more difficult because we have to recover the game technically and emotionally. As a coach, I take full responsibility. The boys did their best to change the fate of the game, but it was not possible.

We found ourselves with a 3-0 in Barranquilla that, I confess, we had not thought about. Soccer is like that, perhaps how badly the game with Ecuador rolled for us was compensated today. It worked out well from the beginning.

Oscar Tabárez, Uruguay coach🇺🇾.

The players with more experience are a vital support to continue growing on this path, they infect the younger ones. We have a supportive and aggressive team.

Reinaldo Rueda, Chile coach🇨🇱.

At times we were able to compete and hurt them, but we made a mistake and we paid dearly for it.

Luis Mago, defender of Venezuela🇻🇪

Thanks for the welcome, @LaRoja 🇨🇱!
